Fire re-Place’d

I know I know, this was a controversial decision. Everyone loves a wood burning fire place, especially in a little cabin in the mountains. That was the problem, it wasn’t that we didn’t want to have a fireplace but that it took up too much room. The cabin also had a gas wall heater. If you’re just staying for a couple days a fireplace is nice, if you’re living there, it’s a very different experience.

The first major project for 460 ended up being the hardest. I don’t know if we got tougher, or it really was the most difficult thing to demolish but it sure felt like it at the time. If I had to do it again I would buy one of those mini jackhammers and it would have taken an hour instead of the full two days.

Like most of the things we would end up doing (or not doing) I would have waited or done something different. That wood fire place would have come in handy for the winters, but - it did free up a LOT of usable space in the living room. Which ended up becoming a bedroom, office, and everything else!
