Things to do in Big Bear:

  • About

You won’t need to leave but if you want to there are plenty of things to do in Big Bear. Some things are seasonal like Skiing and Boating and you should check if places are open before going (Although everything in Big Bear is 30min or less away, most only 5-10min) Also noteworthy is places, especially restaurants tend to close earlier than their posted closing times, especially on less busy times. There’s also nothing open late except for 7-11 - so get your shopping and food done early!

  • Drive Around the Lake

Places to stop: The Dam, Vista, Beach, Fawnskin, Eye of the God, Walk the Plank

  • Rent a Boat

The marina is walking distance from the Cabin and you can rent a boat for a couple hours or for the day. It’s an amazing way to experience Big Bear and so fun! There is also a pirate ship you can rent or get a guided tour on.

  • Helicopter Tour

The Helicopter tours are surprisingly affordable and one of the coolest experiences you can have during your stay!

  • Visit Bluff Lake

Its about a 30 min, semi-off-road drive, but it’s a beautiful little place and one of our favorite spots to visit.

  • Hike

There are a LOT of different hiking trails, of various difficulty levels, available in and around Big Bear Lake. They are also all very different from each other. You could spend weeks exploring them all.

  • Horse Back Riding

Head out to the other side of Big Bear to play cowboy for a few hours. Baldwin Lake has a completely different feel as it’s a High Desert.

  • Skiing

Big Bear is known for being one of the best places to ski in Southern California. There are three places to choose from. Bear Mountain, Moonridge, and one on the way up the mountain.

  • Fishing

Big Bear Lake is fully stocked and there are plenty of places to choose to sit back, relax, and wait for fish to bite!

  • Offroading

There are multiple trails to choose from. Some are relatively easy and a regular SUV could handle, others are on a whole other level and should be left to the pros. If you didn’t bring you Jeep there are some to rent!

  • Biking

Project Alcove comes with two high end Electric Bikes (Hyperscorpions) and Big Bear is the prefect place to ride them around on. From admiring the quirky mountain architecture, trying some of the offroad trails, or especially the new Bike Lane that goes around half the Lake. You could spend all day riding around with plenty to see.

  • Visit the Zoo

There are plenty of animals in your back yard - Big Bear is in a Forest don’t forget! But if you want to see even more you can visit the new Big Bear Zoo - it’s also an animal rehabilitation center.

  • Roller Coaster

There’s a new rollercoaster about 3min away from the Cabin. Depending on the season there is also snow sledding (there is also one is our backyard!) and a water slide.

  • Bar Hopping

Big Bear has a surprising amount of Ristorantes and bars for such a small town - thankfully for you drinkers almost all the bars are located in “The Village” which is basically down town Big Bear. With multiple brewery’s and places to stop by, definitely check out the Cave (Used to be a movie theater) and the classic “Whiskey Daves”

  • Shopping

Big Bear is no Rodeo Drive but there are a few fun and cute shops to stop by, most of which are in the Village. There are two art galleries and some unique places, you’re sure to find something for yourself or bring back a souvenir from one of the many gift shops.

  • Eat

Big Bear has a lot of different restaurants to choose from. Mexican (10+) Thai, Chinese, Japanese, American, Pizza (5+) Himalayan, to the common fast food chains (Denny’s, McDonalds, Taco Bell, El Pollo Loco, Subway, Carl’s Jr., etc). There is plenty to choose from but click below for a guide and our favorite places. Big Bear is a resort town so brace yourself for higher than normal prices!
