Hosting a rental Cabin in Big Bear Lake

Hosting:

  • Security & Monitoring

Project Alcove comes with a variety of Security cameras, fingerprint-enabled door locks, a smart doorbell, and a way to monitor what’s going on both when you’re away from your new property and when you’re inside.

These features are not only good for the owner but for the guests while they are staying. They will be able to watch their car and the neighborhood, feeling secure knowing exactly what’s going on around them. Privacy is also a concern and these services can be completely turned off or limited to only a select few.

  • The Weather

The altitude and Sun are no joke. Nose bleeds - sunburns (Eye burns!) Snow - chains, Big Bear has some beautiful weather but it’s also very seasonal and there are some things to consider hosting your house and to include for your guests.

  • Concierge Services

We were going to offer a variety of packages that clients could choose from (from the site) while booking. From a stocked fridge, fire-pit smores package, fresh baked cookies ready when they enter, laundry, deliver, snow shoveling - the possibilities are endless and would make Project Alcove deserving of its “High End - High Tech” motto. One of the cooler ideas was to hire a specific person to act as a real-life version of a smart assistant.

  • Cleaning

A smart cabin wouldn’t be complete without a slew of home automated cleaning robots. The androids and technology might not be advanced enough to clean the entire cabin(s) but we have some smart vacuums and mops to help keep the place tidy between clients.

  • Pets

We are animal lovers and know how difficult it can be to find a good place to stay when you’re traveling with a furry or feathered friend. We also realize how messy they can be! That’s where the robot vacuums, air purifiers, and washable couch and carpets would come in handy, not just for the dirty pets but the kids (and adults too!).

Don’t forget to keep your (especially small) dogs on a leash. It’s a great place for them to get some exercise and explore but we are still in a forest and there are coyotes around!

  • Occupancy

The city of Big Bear Lake has restrictions on how many people are allowed to stay in each cabin. The validity and how often these rules are enforced are up for debate (we never rented or seen this enforced on our street) but for better or worse the number of people who are allowed to stay in any given cabin is limited. This means no big parties or uninvited guests are allowed. This only applies when you are renting. If it’s for you - then it’s your house and you can do as you wish!

  • Parking

Big Bear doesn’t only limit the number of people that can rent a given cabin they also denote how many cars can be parked. Parking is a very big deal in Big Bear - especially during the winter. Thankfully both 451 (with the included Lots) and 460 have AMPLE parking. Since there is NO STREET parking allowed anywhere in Big Bear (enforced by snowplows during winter) having enough parking is essential - Project Alcove has you covered in this regard!

  • Neighbors

Short-term rentals and Big Bear go hand in hand. It’s a resort town through and through. That is a great thing when it comes to making some money by renting your cabin out but not always ideal for a local who lives next to a thriving rental.

Having lived on a street that is primarily filled with rentals we haven’t experienced any problems ourselves but can imagine how frustrating it could be. Not only for the owners but for people looking to rent a quiet cabin in the Mountains only to arrive to find their cabin is all too close to another cabin.

Project Alcove to the rescue again! Both cabins are lucky enough to have ample room around them before there is another house - and those houses are ALL secondary homes to longtime owners who only come up once a month minimum. Most only a few times a year.

This means no potentially loud renters and plenty of space to make your clients have peace of mind (and quiet).

This is truly one of the hidden problems with renting in Big Bear Lake and you and your renters will be very relieved to be spared the majority of these issues.
