Deck’d Out

Aug 1 2021

It was really important to me to have the front of the cabin have an impact when driving up. I came up with quite a few different designs and even managed to test some of them out physically. But.. time, budget, confidence, were not on my side. The design we ended up with was definitely settling and wasn’t all that different than the original, but it was stronger and stood out and looked way cleaner than what it started out as.

Another reason for keeping it, relatively simple, was we were planning on extending the awning over the entire deck and enclosing it. That would add 400+ sqr feet to the cabin and at least two additional rooms since it would also cover the area under the deck, which, as it is gets wet when it rains or when the snow melts. I would also like to cover the stairs going up to the second level to avoid that whole snow, shoveling thing.

In hind sight - covering the deck and enclosing it and the space underneath would have been the first thing I would have done an I encourage the buyer to do it! Also it would be nice to see one of my designs become a reality.
